Do-it-yourself tutorial 1: save videos from YouTube

Since February 2005, YouTube has become the biggest online video site, broadcasting thousands hours of pure, original, scheming and sometimes obscene or stupid films. So far lots of examples have been presented to you (hence this blog). But maybe you would like to get your own copy of “Look around you” , “Funny arse interview” or “Michel Daerden’s interview” on your computer. So pay attention to the next lines and you will know how to save and play those files.

STEP 1: save your video

In order to carry out this task, you will need a special site that will download your file for you. KeepVid is particularly efficient and polyvalent because you can download videos from YouTube but also from MySpace, Sharkle and many others.
First, check your video URL in your browser (ex: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0dguKikz7Ec&NR for Michel Daeden’s interview). Then copy/paste it in the appropriate text zone of your KeepVid window and click on “Download”. A download link will appear. Finally, follow all the instructions on your screen to save it on your computer.

STEP 2: watch it

Don’t try to read this on Windows Media Player or Real Player, it will not work. If you want to watch your video, you will need a special Flash player like FLV Player.

STEP 3: well… enjoy now!
